NASS 2018 California Almond Acreage Report

Bill Morecraft
Senior Vice President

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reported today that California’s 2017 almond acreage is estimated at 1,330,000 acres, up 7 percent from the 2016 acreage of 1,240,000. Of the total acreage for 2017, 1,000,000 acres were bearing and 330,000 acres were non-bearing. Preliminary bearing acreage for 2018 was estimated at 1,070,000 acres.

Assuming a 3-4% level for bearing acreage replacement, the 1,070,000 bearing acres estimate appears to be a reasonable middle point.

Nonpareil continued to be the leading variety, followed by Monterey, Butte, Carmel, and Padre.
