Farm Bill
Both the House and Senate have passed their farm bills and are moving to conference with the hope of resolving
differences in the two bills. There was success in keeping the Dairy Pride Act out of both of the two bills, but now
work must be done to ensure it is not added to the farm bill in conference. Conference will also be critical for securing
additional MAP funding to help support

exports. While
the Senate bill included a slight increase
for MAP, the House did not.
Labeling
Despite being unable to include the
Dairy Pride Act in the farm bill, the
dairy industry is turning its attention
to individual states. North Carolina
added a provision in its state farm bill
prohibiting the use of the word “milk”
in a label if it does not come from a
hooved animal. This will not go into
effect until eleven other states adopt
similar laws.
Water
In December 2017, water legislation
was passed benefitting California. New
laws continue to be presented with a
focus on increasing storage of water
in California, and we are continuing
to monitor this pending legislation in
both the Senate and House. The new
administration is keeping its promise
regarding WOTUS and began the
process of repealing it.
